SF Aids Walk

Posted by Gravity On July - 14 - 2011

Last July, a rag-tag team of Mission Controllers walked 6 miles through Golden Gate park to raise money to fight against AIDS

The walk itself was gorgeous as thousands of people hiked the route under overcast skies (no need for sunscreen, right?)

The atmosphere was positive and the energy was amazing

While the Aids Walk is a day of Remembrance and Hope, it is also a day of Celebration.

Joe K., Team Captain, brought his mighty (old) boom box and while it had its share of technical difficulties, it finally was able to rally and blast some funky beats which had everyone dancing

This year, Team Mission Control will be walking again and the team is bigger and more oganized. The Aids Walk is a blast and it’s for a good cause. So get your walking shoes ready, come out and walk with Team Mission Control on Sunday, July 17, 2011.

What is the Aids Walk?:

In 2011, up to 1000 people here in our little 7×7 peninsula by the Bay will contract the HIV infection. One in five will not know they are HIV-positive for months or years, and will pass the infection along. Consider the math. This really affects anyone and everyone in San Francisco.

We would really appreciate your help in making an impact! Please sponsor or join us for AIDS Walk San Francisco. It’s fast, easy, and safe to make a donation online with a credit card, debit card, or PayPal. Your donation goes directly to the SF AIDS Foundation, and gets dispersed as grants to organizations like Larkin Street Youth Services, AIDS Legal Referral Panel, Homeless Youth Alliance, and other direct service organizations for individuals living with HIV.

SIGN UP HERE!

BENEFITS OF JOINING TEAM MISSION CONTROL:

Each Team Member receives a custom, limited edition T-Shirt, breakfast, lunch, ICE CREAM! plus other snacks along the route.

Additionally, each Team Member is invited to a celebration and play party at the SF Citadel on Sunday from 2pm-6pm for free

I have signed up, where do we meet?:

Meet at the Official Team Table located in Sharon Medows near Oak/Fell & Kezar drive. The tables will be in alphabetical order.

ARE YOU DRIVING TO THE PARK ON SUNDAY? – Once again, UCSF Parnassus is generously offering free parking to AIDS Walkers. If you are driving Sunday, or if you NEED a ride, please let me know so we can work accommodations. Be aware that those free UCSF parking spaces are tough to find after 10am.

Do you have Questions or Concerns?
Contact Joe (Team Captain) at djtennessee (at) gmail.com

We hope to see you on Sunday morning!

~ Enjoy Performances By~

Shar Rednour

Shar is a creative, strong, and funny mother to three in a transracial, 2-mom family created through domestic adoption. It would seem the miracle of Shar is not all her years of memorable work in the sex ed and entertainment field but the fact that she and her wife of 17 years, Jackie, still actually have SEX!

Susie Bright

Susie is an writer, speaker, teacher, audio-show host, and performer, all on the subject of sexuality.

She is one of the first writers/activists referred to as a sex-positive feminist.

She has a weekly program entitled In Bed with Susie Bright distributed through audible.com, where she discusses a variety of social, freedom of speech and sex-related topics.

Madison Young

Madison is an erotic-film actress, director, published writer, sexual educator and founder of Femina Potens Art Gallery, a nonprofit art gallery and performance space that serves the LGBTQ and Kink communities.

Madison has been featured for her work in feminist pornography as well as a queer activist.

Thea Hillman

According to a report by the Traditional Values Coalition Thea is a radical who “conducts erotic readings for homosexual groups” as part of the “homosexual revolution.” According to herself, that’s pretty much correct, but she would add that she is also the author of several books.

Penny Barber

Ms. Penny Barber has been active in the adult entertainment industry since she turned eighteen in 2003. She greatly enjoys all aspects of domination and submission and continues to augment her already impressive skill list, practicing the sadistic arts in her hometown, the San Francisco Bay Area.
