However, for the more exhibitionist-prone there is a video booth where party goers may opt to show off their great costumes or just be their crazy selves in front of the camera. Love- Madame Butterfly

Posted by Gravity On May - 24 - 2010

Next time you’re at Mission Control, keep an eye out for Madame Butterfly. Odds are you’ll find her happily tying up someone very lucky.

Where are you originally from? Madame Butterfly: San Francisco, Born and Bred, there aren’t that many of us.

What is your favorite thing about the City? MB: No one bothers you, pretty much no matter what you want to do, rarely do you get any shit about it from anyone here. So not only are you free to so what you really want, there is no impetus to go waaay out of your way to impress the masses as there is in other areas. No one cares what color your hair is so you can make it whatever color you really want even if that is fluorescent Green.  There is no need to outdo anyone or anything.

What is your connection with Mission Control? MB: I’m an Alliance member and happy party attendee.

Madame Butterfly is an expert at tying ropes and making them
When did you first attend? MB: My first experience was Speakeasy Japan with Midori and Kiyoshi, I loved tying a couple people to the stipper pole and felt that the party was very well run and friendly.

What is your main focus, talent, or skill? MB: I am a fiber artist who has been spinning yarn and knitting and weaving for years. I’m a rope top because I can look at a harness and know how to tie it easily. I can knit a sweater so tying up a person with one rope at a time is a piece of cake for me. I’m also a singletail top because I love the sound of a whip cracking and I’m just a teeny bit sadistic.

What’s a typical day at work like for you? MB: Spinning rope, dyeing rope and taking care of the paperwork necessary for my small business.

What is your favorite type of work? MB: Working with my hands. I tend to fidgety anyway so I usually have *something* in my hands all the time.

Thank you for your support of Mission Control.  Do you have any words of wisdom for the sex-positive community? MB: You should always have *something* in your hands, in your mouth, in your…

Frequently Asked Questions

Posted by Gravity On May - 17 - 2010

What is Mission Control?

Mission Control is volunteer-based and member-supported community center located in the heart of San Francisco. We host events and gatherings that co-create artistic, sensual, and social evolution. It is a place, a space and a people.

Founders Polly Superstar and Barron Scott Levkoff created Mission Control as a “petri dish” of social experimentation in January 2001. Nine years later to the day on January 1st 2010, after almost a decade of building community in the space, they handed over running Mission Control to the community itself, and from there we have blossomed into a nexus of San Francisco’s diverse and ever changing creator culture.

As an organization, Mission Control is home to special gatherings open to our members and volunteers, with the aim of creating creative connections between people, both within and across a diverse group of communities.

You can become involved with Mission Control by expressing yourself honestly and openly while at the same time remaining open and respectful of the thoughts, creations, and efforts of others.

The Mission Control organization was created by the community through a series of meetings and work groups using the Beauty Engine model. As of January 2010, Mission Control is a membership supported community organization governed by an elected board and run by a dedicated volunteer crew. The Board is made up of nine key leaders including the original founders, Polly and Scott.

Is Mission Control the same as Kinky Salon?

Mission Control, the long time home of gatherings like Kinky Salon, Club Kiss and Pink, is taking off as a community in its own right. Mission Control will continue to be home for a variety of creative, open hearted, and sex positive events. Kinky Salon still calls Mission Control home.

Threshold Sketches by Marc Taro

Posted by Gravity On May - 14 - 2010

For those of you that attended the first-ever Threshold at Mission Control, you know that it was nearly sensory overload with so many people having fun in all sorts of kinky ways. Mission Control was filled to the brim and couples, threesomes, and moresomes played in any unoccupied space they could find.

Marc Taro was on hand and used his sketching talent to capture some of that night’s activities. Mark was also on hand to capture some of the fun at April’s Pink party. Check them out HERE.
